Hi there everyone,
So sorry I haven't logged onto the forum for a while, but as most of you are aware we moved just before christmas so just about settled. The problem is our move was compulsory (armed forces posting), but it has meant an increase in our rent by approx £170 per month. I have rang our IP, or rather one of the assistants so they are aware of the situation and have told us to write a letter explaining all the changes to them. BUT, I have now applied for a job YEE HAA!! as my daughter's seizures seem to have stopped. so if am successful and get the job (please keep your fingers crossed for me) Is it possible to include in the letter that the rent increase and petrol increase to work will come out of the pay I receive before the 50% share is handed over to to the IP?
Sorry if I sound abit dumb, but not sure how to handle this. Thanks again for all you help [:D]

Hi ther jasperyogi nice to hear from you again. Only my opinion so wait for others but I would think they would take your travel etc increases into account as they will be able to offset it from your wage. Just explain it all in the letter, or call them. All the best for the job. and so glad to hear your daughter is better.

Hi there

Well done on getting the job, and I can confirm that if you were my client I would allow all of the additional expenditure - but set this against your 50% of the uplifted income first. Any balance could then come off the 50% you have to pay to your creditors. Other IPs who post on the forum may have different policies, and you really do need to discuss this with your own IP first.

Hi there melanie,
sorry to be a pain but how do you think the ip would work these figures;-
I will be earning about £540 after tax ( this job is only 1 night per week)
with the £170 rent increase and the increase in petrol ( for arguments sake Call it £200 - rent and petrol all in) would they take this from my 50% which would leave me with £70 for the month?
I have tried to ring my IP but cant get a definate answer at the moment. thank you so much for your help, just trying to work out our letter [xx(]

You should be allowed to deduct the increase in costs from your share of the additional income - so your share being £270, less £370 leaves a minus figure of £100, which is then deducted from the creditors £270 share - leaving £170 to pay.

Whilst this does enable you to keep paying into your IVA, aren't you going to feel that you are going out to work for no personal gain? That said, one day per week is not so bad.

Hi melanie, thanks so much for getting back to me. The rent increase was for £170 not £370 which would have left me with £70 under the 50% rule, BUT, I have just heard from my IVA firm and the 50% rule wont apply to me as its a fixed rate of pay per month. So basically all of the monies earned will be paid into my IVA [:(]
Although I should feel happy about paying my creditors more than the agreed 76p in the £, I cant help thinking Why Bother??
taking this job without any gain what so ever for my family would surely make me a saint. why would I want to work a 12 hour night shift when I could be at home looking after my children?
So I think I'm going to put my career on hold for the next 4.5 years.
I did ask about agency work and apparently that comes under the 50% rule because its not guaranteed income. I just dont understand the logic... I can earn £540 and they put all of it into the IVA or I can earn £2000 and keep £1000 if its agency????[:p]. Sorry for the rant but you try to get yourselves out of a whole AND increase your repayment and they say no thanks.

Sorry - I don't agree with them. You said that your rent had gone up by £170 - and sorry I thought you meant petrol up by £200 on top so I misread that post - then this should be deducted before any monies are paid across. You need to check the wording of your IVA proposal to see exactly what it says about earning additional income.

Swansea Jacks eh!!! Well as I am from West Wales, I shouldn't really say too much! Do you visit Swansea often? It is a lovely city, and the new harbour is lovely to stroll around in the summer.

We try to get back as often as the pennies allow. luckily this latest posting has brought us closer to home than we have ever been so making the most of every opportunity we have to visit. Have you ever been to the gower? If not you have to go, I know I may be biased, but it honestly is a beautiful part of the country. the coast line is breathtaking..... now I'm home sick as well as depressed [:(].
On a more "forum" note, if I was to return to uni to do a course would I have to use my bursary for the IVA? As I dont think I could afford to do it otherwise.

Your bursary would be paid to you to meet studying costs, so this would not be grabbed by the IVA Supervisor.
