i have an IVA - been paying for the last 13 months. Reletively happy with it. I know it takes 5 years but what exactly the process after its finished? Is there still a period where I can't get credit. Ive read on some websites that you are free straight away, so me that it takes up to a year for credit companies toaccept you (understandable!) and one forum post I saw said 72 months!!

An IVA will stay on your credit file for 6 years from the day it started.

After my experience with money I will never have credit again. If I can't afford it I don't have it The only credit I will have is my mortgage like millions more.

The only credit I intend to have is a car loan, and that's only if the car dies before I can save enough to replace it!

I would like to say that I'll never have a car loan but my last car died on me and it was a case of get a loan and get a new one quick!

I too will never bet credit again when my Iva finishes, I should then have about £600 (current Iva payment) to spare each month so I def shouldnt need to ,roll on 4 years time.

Credit, the route of all evil, as far as I am concerned.
I had my IVA agreed December. So I did christmas for my 4 children on the cash I already had. It was hard, but how rewarding, when no massive credit card bill appeared this month. It felt soo good. It was easy to see how i got myself in this situation, I have had to make alot of changes, social life - only if I really have to go out, not whenever I want. Clothes - only if we need them, not keeping up with everyone else. Food shopping - cheaper brands - but nobody has noiced. Holidays - SUN holidays - still all fun, it what you make it! Car Tax, MOT, put a little away each month!!!! I used to go out, always be the first to pay the food or bar bill, its funny how some mates dissappear, when they realise you are not so generous!! But best to find out. I was shocked when I was paying cash in the shops at christmas, and i saw all these people paying with credit cards, I was wondering how may people could really afford it, or are possibly not aware that they could be in the same situation as me in a few months time.

I am not bitter, just feel the credit card companies need to take some responsibility for their lending as well.

I am finding budgeting a challenge, but a positive one. Credit no thank you, mortgage only , and car if absolutely necessary!!! Mind you, only just started this, but can already see the light at the end of the tunnel gettin nearer!

Good approach Gill, and the right attitude.... there will be tough times though, that's when support here is invaluable, but the prize at the end......well worth it....
