Read this morning that the Sun are launching a pre-paid credit card. The website is http://www.thesunprepaid.co.uk/ the card cost £6.49 with £5 cash back when you put the first £10 on the card (so really cost £1.49). The fee's are free top up at Barclays branches and at pay point stores. Top-up by Credit/Debit Card 1.95% min 50p UK ATM withdrawal 1.5% – 99p min and £1.50p max
Purchase transactions 2.95% – 50p min and £1.50 max

Sounds like one of the cheaper cards around.

True but alot of people use them to pay for things online or as a back up rather than having to withdraw cash to pay for things. Won't be going for one myself but thought people would be interested

I think that there are better products but at least we are seeing more people coming into the market to try and help things along!

I've got the Virgin card which charges 2.95% when you use it. I haven't used it yet as I've lost the PIN, but it still works out cheaper than the other cards - and you get the usual Virgin discounts!

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

I tried to apply for one of these Sun cards online using my passport as proof of id but wouldnt have it, i then tried with my drivers licence, again no joy, just a number to phone and a reference no.
Phoned them up and had to verify all the details again. Was put on hold then after 10 mins of waiting was cut off, thanks Andy from india!
Phoned india back again and was told there was no one there called Andy...
Anyway, i verified my details yet again and then one last time as i paid with my debit card, but... and this is now 3 hours after starting the whole process, he says he cant accept payment from this card, theres some security issue with it, ive only had the card 15 years (visa).
So after telling him how useful he'd been i explained that he should insert the card in himself, i even offered to help!
Honestly, good luck to anyone trying to get one of these cards, I ordered a Bread card for my dad no problems what so ever, and the rates are about the same it just costs a tenner for the card rather than £1-50. Sun newspaper, you should be ashamed to afilliate yourself with the Newcastle building society, and the indian call centre. [:(!]

Andy, have Think Banking ironed out any of the things I had a problem with:

No internet banking
No balance available at cash points (I was charged by Vodafone for every text balance I received)
Long holds to get through to customer services

To be honest I might have stayed with them if they's had online banking - if I could have gone online and told them what to hold back each month it would have made life a lot easier.

I've just thought - there was a couple of quid in the account when I closed it - they never returned it to me!

No the internet banking is not there yet. Customer services I have to say i have only waited a long time the once and did query it and he explained that it was the beginning of the month and everyone rings up when they get paid to change or transfer things, and no the balance is not on the cashpoints yet. Thats the only thing with this account, a lot depends on how you use it, hubby has free texts so we dont pay any more for them and I only need to check once a week before i shop to ,make sure i know where I am and that I have been paid. All our bill money comes from hubbys wage so, ther is no alteration during the month.
By the way glad you are sorted with the prob at the weekend. I useed to have a similare prob before the iva with a loan because of the weekend at the end of the month.

Thanks Ang. I have free texts but Vodafone charged me 10p a time as they weren't included! It doesn't sound much, but I had just gone BR and was paranoid so was checking everytime I spent some money! I've got so used to having internet banking and I would have been so much happier to go online and enter the amounts for my direct debits each month. If they do make any changes to the account please can you post and keep me up to date. At the moment I'm sticking with Nationwide and the Co-op, but who knows in the future!

On the other subject, I can't believe that a payment day falling at the weekend can cause so many problems!

I have to say I would really like the internet banking, I hope they will sort it soon. They did say at the end of the year so hopefully not that long.
As for the end of the month , I can believe it as i had the samw with a loan I had to transfer from hubbys ac to mine and every time it was the end of the month the transfer took two days longer and cost me. In the end |I had to change the loans date for going out by another three days to make sure it didnt happen.
