Hi Crg
Have you tried the CO OP basic cashminder account or the Nationwide basic bank account? I have had no problem opening with these even though I am now BR. You will need to apply in your local branch and not on line or over the telephone. I had already opened my coop account when I started the IVA route, and they have said in BR I can still keep it. Both banks were very pleasant to deal with and I had no problems when I explained my situation.
They both offer full D/D and S/O facilities, online banking and you get a card to use at the cash point. Neither bank charges for the use of the accounts.
Hope this helps
Good luck

Like Pippa I've got Nationwide and Co-op accounts and I haven't had a problem with either of them. I was with Think Banking but I closed the account as I decided that it wasn't for me - I haven't got many direct debits and I felt as though I wasn't getting anything for my £12.50! Also I couldn't manage without internet banking, or the fact that you cannot get a balance from a cashpoint.

I have been with Think Banking for nearly four years and even though I am no longer in an IVA I still bank with them.Yes you have standing order and DD facilities and most importantly a Maestro debit card that is accepted everywhere.
There is a £12.50 per month fee but that is all you will pay as there are no charges for unpaid items. There is also a £25 set up fee.
It,s well worth it and you have guaranteed acceptance.

Have you not thought about the merits of going back to mainstream banking yet?

Hi Melanie
Good question, but No,I like the thought that my mortgage/bill money is set to one side each month and I do not have to think about paying things.I pay as much as posible on DD.I could get a mainstream account as I recently obtained an A+L business account, but what advantage would there be ?[apart from the £12.50 saving]
The truth Melanie is that going through the IVA was like going through a wrangler and it,s made me a very disciplined guy.

You are the proof of the pudding, and you are right. If £12.50 is helping you to be disciplined with your finances, then that has to be a good thing. But someone is making an awful lot of money out of this - I wonder how the £12.50 fee would fair under the unfair bank charges ruling?

Hi
I think their argument is that it,s a "managed" account.

That's ok if there is something to manage, but I don't see how they can justify charging me £12.50 for the 1 DD I had at the time. I wish I hadn't panicked now and opened an account with them as I wasted the £25 set up fee! I think that is too high as well - I ended up having to chase them a couple of times - has their customer service improved yet? The waiting times were terrible!
