After being turned down online for a basic bank account with natwest because i'm BANKRUPT which is not the case, I then called them and explained to the customer service department what my situation was.
He advised me he would overide the information but i would need to pop into the bank with my IVA details jsut so they could take a copy, so off i went today armed with all my documents only to be told i am BANKRUPT.
The manger i spoke to has never even hear of an iva and proclaimed that i was BANKRUPT and need to provide a discharge letter and then asked if i had permission to open a bank account. I kindly explained my situation again and that i didnt need permission from anyone to open an account. I left the meeting not too hopeful. I have given them all my details so watch this space[V]

laleanne i am so sorry you appear to be having a very rough time of it lately, try writing to the head office of natwest and see if they can help you, i am sure they must have heard of an iva they jsut didn't know much about it obviously, have you tried co-op or nationwide they accept bankrupts even though i know you aren't its just so you can open an account.
i hope you have some joy soon what a nightmare.

Hi Laleanne,
I had the same trouble with Natwest, they didn't know what I was talking about!
I ended up being accepted although my application was pre IVA. I finished up going to another branch and not even bothering to explain, I never mentioned it.
Keep your chin up, there are banks out there that you will be able to get an account with, unfortunately it is added stress you can do without

Hi Laleanne
I have mentioned in previous posts about the Gregory Pennington managed account.They will accept you in an iva over the phone they do a managed ac and it is great. It is rbos but doesnt matter if you have debts with them. There is a set up fee of 25 pounds and monthly charge of 8 ( soon to be 12.50) but you will also get a debit card ( only whats in your ac though cant go over and you are covered against all charges. I have recommended this a few times and some have now got the ac and no one complains quite the contrary. The no is 0800 634 2051 they will answer any questions and explain it all to you. I wouldn't bother with them if they are going to treat you like that.
I opened a basic accoutn with Nationwide in 10 minutes face to face. They were brilliant.
I don't have a cheque book or debit card but do have internet banking so can do DDs and SOs. It's working fine at the moment.
I'm sure they will be able to help you.

Oh forgot to mention the Nationwide accoutn does have a cashcard up to £300 per day and it's absolutely free.
