Financial data in this country is always recorded as this is part of how the finance companies decide whether to lend to people. Also the information is recorded for data analysis purposes. The IVA register is little known and only mainly used by people within the industry. Someone would have to know about the register and then physically search the register for your specific details to find out if you were in an IVA.
Hope this information is of use

Great answer from IVA experts, you can be confident that your IVA will be kept from the general public, unlike bankruptcy that is adverised in your local paper !!! Unless someone goes looking for your name on the register then no one will ever know.
Don,t worry,I don,t and I am in a job where I manage a cash business of £11 million a year[My employer would feel very uneasy if they knew of my personal circumstances]

i do feel a little reassured thanks but it just angers me that anyone could access it if they wanted to do so - my main worry is that i work in the public sector and keep my personal details private for safety reasons. It wouldnot be as bad if they did not publish your address. anyway i know that it is extremely unlikely - i will stop moaning!

Hello Bill,
An IVA is an extremely effective way of helping people to get rid of their debt problems and to make a fresh start. However you need to make significant changes to the way you do your budgeting not to have the same difficulties in the future.
Come up with a plan, decide what your priorities are and live your life accordingly. Create a goal, such as holiday.
Once you have had that agreement with yourself, everything else fits into that framework.
If you do not do anything about your debt, you will pay more in interest than the original expense. Why do you want to pay the credit-card company all that money, when you could be paying that money to yourself?
Once you are debt free, you should look in to savings plan. Create an emergency savings fund equal to three to six months' worth of expenditures. The idea is to be prepared for when unexpected expenses pop up, such as a major home or car repair bill. If you do not have an emergency fund, you will probably have to turn to your credit cards. You also need to educate yourself. If you do not understand a financial concept or issue, find the answer. Get help from financial advisers, books and the Internet.

Hi
It,s tough, very tough and five years is a long time to stick to a strict budget. My advice is to make sure that your income and expenditure form is realistic, you need to cover all expenses from kids clothing to xmas presents otherwise you will have a miserable five years or your IVA will fail.
Make sure that you understand all aspects of your IVA and if you are a homeowner make sure that you understand the equity release.
An IVA is a way forward but it must not be taken on lightly
