I've read with interest a past forum about the Cooperative sending out Visa debit rather than Electron cards. I've bee with the coop for a couple of months and noticed when using my electron card it shows up in stores a Visa rather than Visa Electron and takes a few days to debit my account. I've spoken to Coop Banking today who confirm all cards will be changed to Visa Debit cards and that recent issues although printed as Visa Electron cards are Visa Debit card numbers hence the confustion when using it.
They confirm every account holder will get the debit card. So after 2 years with bank of Scotland im transfering it all across to the Coop

Hi Adders, nice to see you.

It is good news that the Co-op is doing that. At least people will be able to shop using a card, rather than cash as I have to do!

Go to the Co-Op now - tell them that when you have written your book you will be a wealthy client!

It's a really good account the online bankings great and they've even sent me this free thing(haven't worked out how to use it yet)that you put next to your modem and put your card in and apparently you can do even more online.

can you open a coop account online?

Yes you can. To be honest it's pretty much the same as a 'normal' bank account apart from no overdraft or chequebook.

will give it a try they can only say no. I had trouble getting a bank account before as I wasn't on the electoral role as the landlord dealt with things like that and council tax e.t.c. I have had everything put into my name now so are back on the electoral role.

I thought that the basic cashminder account could only be opened over the phone or in a branch?

you cant do it online I just tried. Branch or telephone only and nearest branch is 40 miles away.

You can use any cashpoint and pay in money through other banks so it doesn't matter so much that you can't get into a branch.
