sorry newbie here and going through options for an IVA or other DMP.

what difference does an account with a debit card make to getting an IVA. I need to get an account for booking hotels for work and hope that either a nationwide account or natwest that i applied online for might be ok. Any suggestions as my debts are with Barclaycard,MBNA, Capital One, Sainsburys and current account and overdraft is with Barclays. Does an IVA make you close debit card accounts?

Thanks

There is no problem in you having a bank account which provides you with a debit card, so long as this is not with a bank to whom you already owe money.

If you struggle to get an account with a debit card, you can always get a prepaid card.

Antony,
I found that the CO-OP Cashminder is a great option, I told them that I was in a IVA and they couldn't of been more understanding. You get given a bank acct, obviously with no overdraft and a Visa Electron Debit card. Hope this helps.[:D]

You will need a bank account to do an IVA but it can only be like the one just described nor should it be with any of your creditors. By choosing a bank which is not one of your creditors you ring fence your pay because you control the account your wages are paid into and not a creditor you owe money to who may be able to transfer money between your accounts...

Yorkshire Bank are another one to consider.

Natwest is one to avoid at the moment as they seem to be freezing the accounts of people in an IVA as they class it the same as bankruptcy.
