What do we do?..We currently owe £169000,on mortgage and also a secured loan of £35000. we also have non priority debts totaling £35000, my husband wants to and the keys back to Northern rock and then go br, i'm not quite sure what to do but I know we need to sort this out as we have one child and another on its way!(Accident, but it was obviously meant to be as I have miscarried so many times before and now this one has stayed!)..Please help Do I write to Northern Rock and how long after handing in the keys should we apply for BR?

Kay ... I just wanted to say welcome to the Forum. This is a special child (as are they all) so you need to look after yourself and your family now.

The most important thing is not to do anything rash ... don't go handing any keys back, they will come and get them when, and if, the time is right and this proves necessary. Try to keep a roof over the head of your family for as long as you can ... this is a basic human need.

Firstly, do you have any equity in your property, as, if you don't, then you may even be able to keep it if you need to go down the BR route.

Don't panic ... stay in touch with the Forum ... are are all here to help you.

I would definately try and persuade your husband to have a consultation with an insolvency practitioner before deciding anything rash. This can be over the telephone, at your convenience, and some IPs will do this during the evening or at weekends if this is more convenient.

In the event that you decide that bankruptcy is the best option for you, then I would recommend a chat with a mortgage representative from Northern Rock to see if there is anything they can do to help, rather than just handing the keys back and walking out. The team in Sunderland are extremely knowledgable and helpful, and you have nothing to lose by seeking help and advice.

Hi kay

I have contacted Melanie Giles to help get me out of my mess. She might not thank me for advertising the fact that she gets back to you at all times of the day (and late into the evening) if you are in a state of mad panic. Lots of people on this site have made contact with one or a couple of the IP's on here, always worth checking out ALL your options there might be more than you think.

Good luck and congrats on the baby. XX

Fabulous news about the little one - and do remember that she is the highest of your priorities when considering the merits of both an IVA and bankruptcy. Some things are just more important.
