My laptop has now given up, always me isn't it? I'm not too bothered and won't be getting it fixed in a hurry we still have the family PC, however, all my stuff for Melanie etc, is saved in Outlook folders, not a problem, I'll eventually get everything back but I need Melanies contact email. Can you not post it on here please but tell me how to get an IP's email details as I know there is a site but can't remember how or where at this moment. Many thanks in advance.

As an IT expert i can definitely recommend the "Put it on the floor and kick it technique"
You'd be amazed how many laptops i've fixed that way.. Mind you.. clearly it's an IT Professional's "touch/kick"
Don't try this at home kids ;o)

We now have two broken laptops and resorting to the PC which I think Noah had before us as it's so antiquated! One day I'll get them fixed when money allows!

lesley,
out of interest do they actually turn on but not load windows, load windows and crash or?
If it's software based i may be able to give you a few things to try to fix them if you want. If hardware then ob it's a bigger problem

I think it's software based and would love some assistance to fix, I've got to do second shift at work now 4.30pm - 7pm but if the offer is still on for another time I would love to take you up on it. They turn on but won't load, there is an error message on daughters mine seems to think it's had some configuration change, if you want you can ask admin for my email address and we can converse on there, I'm not totally IT illiterate as I do teach I.T but it's the Microsoft Office we teach nothing to do with fixing!

A couple of ideas, did you install anything since you last managed to start your PC successfully?
Can you load up safe mode, press F8 on start up, if so you might be able to use system restore, or back up any files you want to keep and format and reinstall. (Last option but make sure you back up everything first)
If it wont start at all you could try booting from the windows cd too

Good advice inaiva
Usually it's some silly file or driver that gets corrupted. Most things can be fixed without a full reinstall
;o)

That would be the last option, if nothing else works but like animaleyes says 99% of the time it usually is a corrupt system file or driver.
I'd look at what has changed since the problem occurred, as this will give you some kind of clue as to what may be causing the problem.

Just post on here when you have time with the error message on your daughters and yours etc and we should be able to help you

Sounds like inaiva has had better luck with system restore though lol.. It's only ever worked once for me lol
