Hi, I recently had a company called debtfixers on the phone saying they had been appointed by the court. I was a very silly boy when I was in my teens and it seems these debts have come back to haunt me. What strikes me as odd, is that I've had no solicitors letters, no letters from the "court" or anything like that, just this man who said he'd got my phone number from the head office of my employer (what happened to data protection). Their web page is laughable, stationery (they sent me an application pack) looks ok but it doesn't take a genius to drop an order by the printers does it? Does this sound right? They also refused to tell me which debts I have due to data protection, said I'd have to order a credit report and fill out the form myself. It just sounds so fishy. I can't find any info on them at all, please help!!

Ask to be sent a copy of the letter the Court sent to Debtfixers instructing them to act on the courts behalf! that should sort it!

Melanie wrote a post on 27 Mar stating there was no such insolvency firm called Debtfixers and that they maybe a firm who just hunts for possible IVA customers then gets commission for handing them over to an IP firm!

Sounds all well dodgy, I'd definitely do what jpj suggests and ask for a copy of the court letter instructing them to act on their behalf, if they have such a document!!!

Hi
I would brush this aside how many years ago were you silly? they would not send a company like this to your door, if the courts are looking for you the boys in blue would be knocking.
regards.

Debtfixers is a subsidiary of the Money, Debt and Credit Group. We originally phoned MDC for an IVA a couple of years ago and they said we couldn't have one.

How old is the debt ... older than 6 years?
If so and there has been no attempt to secure payment from you in that time, statute barred?
Ignore the letter ... if they are a serious outfit they will contact you again. Then ask them to supply you with all the relevant paperwork relating to the debt.
As for your employer providing them with your phone number ... the only people you can take that up with is your employer.
