Hi
My partner split with his wife last year and was left with just over £17,000 worth of credit cards debts. To try and make payments easier cards have been juggled around and for some of them they have been trnasfered into my name. They are all traceable and are easily led back to my partners credit. Can you apply for an IVA in joint names, we are not married but have lived together for over 6 months.
Regards
Sarah

Hi Sarah and welcome to the forum. I am no expert, but the way I understand it, is that IVA stands for 'Individual' Voluntary Arrangement which means it is a sole arrangement. Other half and I are married and our IVA's will be seperate but as we have joint debts, I understand that they will be 'linked', but I am not sure about cases of unmarried couples. Hopefully an expert will be along shortly to assist you with your question. Rgrds Kazzy x

Hi Sarah

There is no such thing as a joint IVA but you can have 2 IVAs that are "interlocked" i.e once approved, the assets and liabilities are pooled and all debts are treated as if joint and several.

I'm a bit concerned about debts being simply "transferred" into your name, though. What was the rationale behind it and, importantly, have you taken any credit on the accounts in question since the transfer?
