Hi everyone, hope you are all doing fine.

Just really want to vent some frustration so here goes. It really does seem to be one thing after another and is partly why we ended up in debt in the first place. We just always seem to have a never ending run of bad luck. So far this year, washing machine has broken twice, fridge and freezer have both packed up. Managed to buy second hand ones off ebay and had washer fixed twice.

Two weeks ago my fiancees car developed problems and has had work done on it, the day her car was in the garage mine stopped working and although I'm quite handy with cars I am absolutely stumped and can't fix it!! It has been off the road for over a week now. I bought this car last year after my previous vehicle blew up and was uneconomical to fix. We have been lucky that my fiancess dad could take her to work and I was able to pick her up and we could borrow his car one day when my fiancee was at work and I was working for several hours after she finished. Unfortunately no buses run to where she works and to pay for a taxi she would have to work for over two hours to break even.

And that's not the end, I am due to be made redundant at the end of July or end of August (most likely July) and as from next week I have had my hours cut meaning I will be a several hundred short for the monthly IVA payment. Nevermind wondering how we are going to pay for the car tax, fix the broken car or scrap it and buy another cheap banger, fix the damp that's rising up the plaster in the hall way and numerous other little things that I won't bother boring you with!

I have been trying to get a new job to no avail and even those I have applied for pay nothing like I am getting now. I did advise my IP that if I had to get another job or the pay terms changed on my current job it would be a siginificant cut. Never thought it would happen but it has.

I just can't see a way out and I am very pissed off!! (Excuse my French)
Ben

Have you spoken with your IP at all? they are really your first port of call esp with the impending redundancy as they may be able to reduce your IVA payments for you.

As regards the run of bad luck, you know we all have it, I think it's just perfectly normal for all these things to go wrong in everyone's lives, just when money isn't so tight and you have access to credit you get things replaced or repaired without even thinking about it.

Yes, I have let them know about the redundancy and I am going to send them an email today explaining my hours have been cut and I will no longer be able to afford the same monthly payment.

Hi! Your IP should be able to help with a payment reduction and even a payment break to help you get some of the more urgent things fixed!

I can totally understand why you need to vent...your luck will change soon! x

I certainly hope so. I need to ring them tomorrow, the car is going to be very expensive to fix and will be cheaper to buy a new one!! Plus next week we need two cars as my fiancee is working most of the week and can't get a lift and I can't get in to work any other way. I hate asking for help but can't think of any other way round it. Does anyone know what time the offices at Melanie Giles shut? The only positive thing to come out of this is that now that I finish work earlier than usual I will be able to ring them.

Mel will be understanding and help where possible. Give her a call during office hours but do know she works above and beyond these hours. x

So sorry to hear that you are having a rough time at the moment. Hope you were able to ring Mel's office and come to agreement as to the way forward - am sure something can be sorted.

We all go through bad times, and sometimes it feels like it is never going to end, and you land up asking the question "why us" - life does get better I promise !

I can sympathise with you alot, the thing is the D factor (debt) really is the problem here, and seemlesly magnifies all our other financial strains and responsibilities. As others have said your IP if they are any good will help you through this. We found that by by buying things like hoovers and cookers etc, we opted to pay the 3 yr insurance offered by most high street shops now. It may seem like a wast of a few good quid, but we've had two new cookers, 2 microwaves and four new hoovers, all for about £35 which is the cost of the 3 year insurance. It's worth doing! As i like you began buying junk off ebay in an effort to save money. It just doesnt work. Hang in there pick up the phone and speak to people, it's amazing how far you can go. I.e reducing broadband ans call packages, i called mine up and said the usual i'm leaving to join someone else (do research forst and get prices from other companies) they asked what the best price was and they matched it. saving me £11 a month for the cost of a call. Splendid.
