Hi please advise, we finished our IVA 100% iPad plus SI and fees approx 4 years ago. There is no record on experience etc. Do we still have to declare it if going for a new mortgage?? Thanks people

Hi,
If you are asked the question then yes, you have to say yes.
If you need a mortgage then speak to either Ryan or Shaun (details under the expert link on the left hand side of the page) who have helped many a poster on here get a mortgage.

If they ask the question "Have you ever been in an IVA / made bankrupt / entered into an arrangement ... etc." you should answer yes.
Many have suggested on here before that they will probably not find out, and will probably do nothing if they do.
I know from experience that some have been caught out this way and the mortgage application declared fraudulent and mortgage facilities withdrawn leading to repossession.
At the end of the day it is down to your conscience and your need for a stress free life.
Personally I would be honest and I would use a specialist broker such as Ryan and / or Shaun, who both post on this forum.

It depends what they ask. Have you ever been in an IVA the answer is Yes. Are you in an IVA (or words to that effect) no...
Speak to Ryan or Shaun who are the mortgage experts on here. You don't want to damage your credit rating again inadvertently simply by shopping around.

I'll always say honesty is the best policy but does depend on wording.

Always be honest with these things, I was advised before that if you do lie on a mortgage application then beyond the mortgage being withdrawn in certain jobs it could put your job at risk, for example police officers have been dismissed for this very thing and further to that you may end up with CIFAS / fraud marker on your credit file.

Not necessarily with police officers - I used to work with one who self certified (at the time when you could do that) and he was never found out.

Believe me if he had been found out, he would have been sacked, there was a case the other year of an officer from GMP and certainly have seen a few in the Met sacked over the years plastered in notices for that very thing

I worked for the police and, even when the IVA was mentioned, there was never a threat of being sacked and, in fact, the force even sent out an email to everyone and suggested places to go to if they had financial problems.

No not sacked regarding an IVA, sacked regarding lying on a mortgage application , sorry think we got our wires crossed there. Lots of police officers have IVAs as long as they are declared there is no issue.
