Hi, don't know if anyone else has come across this but we're on an IVA and pay our gas and electricity by monthly direct debit. The company we're with were charging us £54 a month but now want to increase it to £73 a month. We applied to switch to Atlantic Electric and Gas only to be told that due to our poor credit rating the only way they would accept us was if we paid £150 deposit, which we would get back after being with them for a year. Obviously, being on an IVA, we cannot afford to pay this amount. Does anyone know if this is now common practice with all energy companies? If it is then we are stuck with a £20 per month increase, thus making our IVA even less affordable.

BT charged us a £50 deposit, but we have recently moved and started utilities with eletric, gas and water - all different companies and all have set us up new accounts with no deposit required. Shop around - you may even get a cheaper offer!
