Is this really fair?

6 years in an Iva (5 years plus one year extension due to not being able to remortgage to release equity) everything dropped off reports except IVA on insolvency register. Called step change to chase completion certificate and advised can take 6 months due to outstanding PPI claims (We don’t have any) There PPI claim department are looking into this but are 8 weeks behind. 72 months not one missed payment stuck to the rules and now could be a further 9 months 6 for certificate and 3 months for insolvency. My question is is this fair? An Iva is not 5 years or even 6 years it’s nearly 7 years.

Unfortunately this does happen and other than pestering Stepchange until they get fed up of hearing from you.

The industry regulatory bodies have, in the past, stated that PPI alone is NOT a reasonable excuse for delaying completion. PPI can be, and usually is, dealt with as part of the IVA Trust, after completion.

I would make a formal complaint direct to your IP which you can then escalate to the regulatory bodies if needs be.

Sometimes just the threat of a complaint can work wonders.

Threaten them with a complaint if it's not received with 14 days.

I also recently completed 6 years IVA with stepchange but I found them very quick to deal with the completion. Approximately 6 weeks after my final payment I received my completion certificate. I too received an email advising me they were waiting for my completion certificate to be signed and to expect it to arrive within two weeks, however, it arrived the very next day. Hopefully yours arrives as speedily as mine.

I just cannot understand the way they have treated us, 6 years is a long time now an extra 2 months i feel we are not free and feel very disappointed with them. If you promise within 2 weeks action it! im sure it will turn up soon but just want to move on now.

Two months is not long in the grand scheme of things. Also covid has probably slowed them down a bit too. At least your no longer making payments. Fingers crossed it will be finished with in the coming days.

Ring them daily, chasing it - ask for an emailed copy as well as a printed one in the post.
