I have been I an IVA for just over a year now which has been really helpful. I have recently received a postcard type letter saying to contact westcot credit agency(debt collector) which I am confused about as my IVA knows of all debts and the only debt the IVA can't help with is tax which I am paying back monthly and have an arrangement with.
It is quite scary looking at it and I really don't know what to do. I'm really fed up with it now I will call the early morning but I don't know if they will accept the IVA and I know I'll end up setting up a monthly arrangement with them cause I'm worried bailiffs will show at the house. Please help

It is possible that Westcot have bought one of your debts -- if so they will be bound by the IVA anyway. Just tell them to contact your IP. If all of your debts were in the IVA they can do nothing. Do not let them bully you.

There are some companies who buy debts without realising they are included in an IVA and just have to take the loss, but a few out there will 'try it on' anyway and will tell people all sorts of rubbish to get money out of them. Creditors bound by an IVA should only contact the IP.

I agree - just contact your IP.

Same thing happened to me with Lowells, I just gave them the details of my IVA and never heard from them again.

Also, bailiffs won't call at your house and if debt collectors turn up you do not have to let them in. Whatever you do, don't let them bully you into making an arrangement - it could result in your IVA failing.

Is there a friend/relative that knows about your IVA who could give you some moral support if you decide to call them and give IP information? They might be able to be in background and give you the strength to stop you being talked into agreeing to an arrangement when under pressure?
But like others have said if the debt theyre contacting you about is in the IVA theres nothing they can do.

I contacted IP this morning and they said to let them know of I receive anything else and they will contact them. Thanks everyone for helping

If you want to be absolutely sure it's dealt with, you could email dro@wescot.co.uk with a copy of your chairman's report and proposal. You'll need to quote the reference number starting with DM/ that's on the letter you received.

They'll then most likely pass it back to their client, your creditor. Wescot don't normally buy debts, they'll usually act as a collecting agent.

You've most likely have been referred to them in error by a creditor who isn't known to your arrangement or a company has bought your debt from another creditor and doesn't realise an IVA is in place.

Who do Wescot say they're acting on behalf of? And who's your IP? It's a bit weird that they say they'll only contact Wescot if they contact you again.

I spoke to them last week and they said the postcard letter I received seems like they just wanted updated details but if anything else comes to let them know. I have also emailed wescot and rung them to tell them to go through my IP. Not sure what else I can do really. I haven't reviewed anything else yet from wescot since I contacted them.
