Hi all

StepChange has advised I contact my creditors about the IVA and tell them that I have been advised to pay x amount to them.

Does anyone know if there’s an easier way to do this than ringing them?

Thanks

I didn't contact any of my creditors but waited until those that still had my number rang me, at which point I told them I was going into an IVA and they should speak to my IP. Of a bout 20 creditors between my ex and myself ( we went into a pair of interlocking arrangements ) about 4 or 5 called and were no real bother.

Same here - I contacted no one and I made no nominal payments.

So just change the payments that are being made without contacting them? How does it work with default charges etc?

All you will do is speak to a call centre and chances are they will try and 'persuade' you to make a normal payment. Charges will probably be applied anyway and your account will also go to default. Just move your accounts to your new bank. Any charges etc will be included in your IVA.

Ok that’s fine. Thanks for that.

I need to stop all my creditor direct debits then. I’ve got a new account to move across to just haven’t got chance to do it yet.

I would do it asap. If you have online banking I would remove contact details.

Your IVA Nominee will write to your creditors regarding any IVA proposals you intend to put forward...
