Credit file help

Hi guys, just wanted some information, i started a dmp in august 2010 to sept 2012 when it changed to an IVA, one of the accounts was cleared in july 2012 while in the dmp, most things have dropped of my credit file except this account, my credit file is marked AP (arrangement to pay) from august 2010 to sept 2012 but at account was cleared july 2012, the credit file then states that the account is up to date and only being marked as settled in july 2014. IKANO who the debt was with has said that because the account was not closed by myself when it was cleared then it lay dormant for 2 years before they marked my file as settled, this now means that this information will stay on my credit file until july 2020. Is this correct should the debt not have been marked settled when it was cleared in july 2012 therefore it should be off my credit file, sorry for the long post but any advise would be very welcome.

Hi Diane,

If the account was included in the IVA (and hadn't been defaulted whilst under the DMP) then they have to issue a default against the account which should be dated the same date as the IVA start date. By doing so the account should then fall off your credit report.

Regards

Thanks for your reply Ryan, no the account didnt go into the IVA as it was cleared in the DMP in july 2012, should ikano not have listed the account as settled on that date rather than leave the account open for 2 more years before listing it as settled.

The problem with DMPs is that unlike with an IVA the Creditors don't have to default you on the start date. Its worth contacting the creditor and telling them you need them to issue a default against the account and get them to date it as far back as possible so that the account will then fall off the credit report (as long as the default date is over 6 years ago).

Regards

I've already spoken to them and they have refused, the debt was included in a DMP from feb 2010 and was cleared in July 2012, but they have only recorded the debt as settled in June 2014, nearly 2 years later, i don't understand why they won't mark the account as settled when it was cleared in 2012, there reason is that I never asked them to closed the account, the account then lay dormant until June 2014 when they then marked the account as settled.
