Our 1960 warm air heating system has been condemned

Hi all.
I'm 3 1/2 year in to iva. Our 1960 warm air heating system has been condemned. My self and family are rather cold currently!! (We have little plug in running to keep some of the chill off)

I am at my wits end, I've spoken to everyone I can think of, CAB, step change, Christian agiesnt poverty there doesn't seem to be any grants / loans or advice.

IVA has offered a 6 month break however the cheapest warm air system is 3,250. My iva break couldn't come close to half of this.
We don't have friends or family who could help out financially.

Anyone on here been in this situation or has any advice please?
I'd be thankful for any advice :)

As I recall, there are a couple of posters, in the not too distant past, who have managed to get a combi-boiler system installed on one of the aided schemes, hopefully they will see this and post. To be honest, if you are looking at reinstating the warm air system, I doubt you will get assistance as the combi-boiler schemes are, in part, driven by the ecological arguement.

Sorry I cannot be of further assistance.

I have to concur - you may find it difficult.

Hi foggy,

Thank you so much for reply, honestly don't mind what kind if system I have!
They did give me a quote for a wet system but it was plus 8 thousand. So I hadn't entertained the iPad,

I'll look through the old posts.

Thank you

Okay.
I've had a look through the posts none of them are relevant as they are boilers, so they were looking s like for like.
we don't have a boiler or wet system in place.

It's such a horrible situation to be in

Hi , I would give your energy supplier a call to see if they have any schemes going under the energy company obligation

Sorry , I forgot to ask , why has it been condemned. Could it not be repaired by a gas safe engineer ?

Hi.
Could try that, thank you,
It was condemned because:
The ventilation is not safe under new regulations.
The unit it self was corroded and back plate not attached,
The flume is broken in several places and deteriorated. He said we were extremely lucky nothing awful had happened.

Has he actually disconnected the unit and issued paperwork ?

Hi,
Yes, he has disconnected the unit and I do have the paper work. I have no issue with the company who disconnected the unit. They are gas safe registered.

Maybe clutching at straws here but do you think there would be any point in gaining some free quotes to see if it can be put right or is it too old to be fixed ?

What about buying some economy 7 wall heaters that have timers ..average running cost 1p a minute ?

There are some offers on them at tge minute.

You could also consider asking your IP for a payment break to save up the funds to pay for a replacement.

By then it might be warmer though!

If you are looking at an interim "fix" using panel heaters, Economy 7 storage heaters would need too much wiring to install from scratch, but there are a few firms doing efficient panel heaters which use domestic 13 amp sockets.

I think a payment break wouldn't cover the costs!
