I'm trying to get a good practitioner before I go forward with an IVA who can recommend a good practitioner that has been very good with them?

Speak to several companies - Vincent Bond can be contacted for free advice, as can other companies.

Make sure and speak with a senior manager or the IP themselves. Some firms will never let you talk to the IP so if you cannot do this at the beginning you have little or no chance later on should you need to. If you are self employed make sure you use a firm with experience and do not be swayed by a salesperson in a call centre.

An IVA can involve a difficult process and you are essentially admitting you are one step away from being bankrupt.

It is also a long journey and you may be dealing with the same company for 6-7 years depending on your particular circumstances so you have to feel comfortable with who you are dealing with.

We ended up with Creditfix having been sold on to them by another company. Ultimately it did us a favour but we would never recommend them simply because you cannot speak to the Insolvency Practitioner.

Kallis and Michael offer really good and sound advice.

I can only echo the advice given above. Have a look around the forum for the good and bad we talk about.

I cannot recommend any firm by name as I have to remain impartial -- but I would advise a small / medium sized firm, where you can talk to your IP if needed, rather than the "IVA factories" who have 1 IP to cover far too many clients and you cannot contact him / her direct.
