Joint bank account - My name only

Hi everyone!

My husband and I have a joint IVA however when we had to change bank accounts at the beginning he did not want any responsibility of the finances and did not want to have a bank account, therefore we have one account which both our wages are paid into and all bills come out of and it is in my name only.
This has worked fine but as we are now 3 years down the IVA road I am beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel and starting to think how we will try and rebuild our credit in the future. If we were to get his name added to the account now will they do a credit check? The account is with Santander.

Hi,

If you have an interlocking IVA (which yours will be - no such thing as a joint IVA). Both of your credit ratings are shot and I doubt the bank would agree to adding him to the account.

They will credit check to add him and will most likely refuse. He could open a basic account with the likes of Co-Op ( Cashminder ) in his name and just keeep few quid it.

Most banks now offer non facility accounts so it may be worth asking Santander. If they will not help try someone like the Nationwide for a joint account and I am sure you will get something.

Nationwide are pretty good with the basic cash card account which gives you a debit card.

We have just been able to upgrade ours to a full interest paying account.
