So I've done it, I'm free!! I received my completion certificate today and it feels amazing. I entered into an IVA on 04/02/11, last payment on 1st Feb and IVA closed on 8th April. It was with Aperture, formally Grant Thornton; I had prepared myself for at least a 6 month wait so I'm more than happy with this timescale! Hopefully it will give others hope too
Now time to start trying to rebuild my credit as we'd love to move home ASAP after everything has dropped off my credit file - we live in a 1 bed 3rd floor flat, I'm 33 and my husband is 35 and we're dying to start a family
So a question for people - once my name is off the insolvency register, can I apply for things like Vanquis card or cashbuilder card? I didn't think I could but I've just read an old post on here from 2012 where someone applied and got them once his name was off the register. This would be ideal to start building credit as all I have at the mo is my mobile phone contract. However, I equally don't want to apply for credit, be turned down and have that on my file.
Advice would be much appreciated, thanks all.

Congratulations
I applied, and got, a Vanquis card after coming off the Register and am collecting green ticks on my, otherwise awful, credit files.

That's really helpful, thanks Foggy. This forum has been so helpful to me over the years

So I'll wait to drop off the insolvency register and give it a go!!

It can take up to 3 months to get of the register but I got took off in a week by emailing them my CC AND the creditors report.
The folks who maintain the register are on the ball unlike credit ref agencies.
The email address you need to email is-
CustomerServices.EAS@insolvency.gsi.gov.uk
Please include all of your ref numbers also.
Just keep enabling to chase it up.
Good luck.

Foggy tried to get taken off before the three months after I said I'd gone within two weeks and they refused to do it.

Don't forget that the IVA will remain on your credit record for six years from the date of initial acceptance.

Thanks everyone! And some good advice there Midland Blue, I'll bear it in mind if I don't see it dropping off the insolvency register soon.

A lot will depend upon who picks up your file at the Insolvency Service. As Kallis says, they refused to take me off any earlier than the three months and flatly denied that anyone comes off before three months, despite me being able to quote others that have come off within weeks. In the end they simply stopped replying to me !!

Well done and congratulations.
My time line from CC from IVA;
3 days, name off registry (so lucky with that).
6 months, Barclays upgraded my account from cash card to full current account.
1 year, All defaults dropped off all 3 CR agencies, without me having to intervene.
1 year 3 months, Barclaycard application accepted with low APR and £5k limit (too scared to use it yet)!
Too date, My credit rating is very good to excellent but still failed to get a Vodafone contract, but then so did Paul Weller apparently, so I don't feel too peeved about that. O2, Virgin and EE have all provisionally said yes. (still with Virgin until contract runs out).
I know all circumstances are going to be different, but hopefully you won't struggle to achieve what you wish for. Good luck.
