Hi

I've almost finished the job of cleaning up my credit files post IVA.

What have I missed?

I've

1) Made sure all three CR agencies no longer show the IVA plus Noddle.
2) Had our records removed from the Insolvency Register.
3) There doesn't appear to be a charge on our home.

Is there anywhere else I should be looking/cleaning?

Look here:

Also check on the credit reports for any Notices of Correction -- they will not drop off unless requested.

I have a question on this too please, slighly off topic but related (hope you don't mind concretedonkey).

If you complete an IVA for example inside the 5 years say for example with a full and final after 2 years, when does it drop off your credit file ? is it 12 months after completion certificate issued, or is it still the 5 years minimum thing ? or is it related to when drops off insolvency register rather than completion certificate etc ?

If one did receive the completion certificate after 2 years, dropped off register after 2 years 3 months and one is pro-active in ensuring the credit file dates of default all match the date entered into IVA (I have read this is what I'm supposed to ensure and ask each company to ensure they mark the debt as settled, or part settled).

How long will those defaulted credit card entries stay on the credit file ? and how long will it be before their impact is not a factor, or at least a reduced factor ?

All the above questions in terms of when does one perhaps become a viable mortgage applicant.

Thanks

Having just spent the last 3 months cleaning my files for the same reason, I'm afraid 6 years is the magic number.

Watch out for companies who have the default date much later than when your IVA started. The defaulted date should always be no later than the IVA start date. Until the 6 years is up, they will be marked as "Partially Settled".

All bar Experian removed our court/IVA records when we were still on the insolvency register but I had to send the Certificate of Due Completion to them all.

In the end, the Insolvency Register just required a couple of phone calls so don't bother trying to email.

This is such a common question - perhaps should be set as a sticky on website...

Thanks Donkey.

Thanks Lisa, I was able to find information pertaining to when one can apply for mortgage post full term of an IVA, but not regarding time periods post early settlement.

Would be a good sticky though, I agree.

today must be sticky idea Monday ![:D]

Longslog -- the answers lie within the link I posted above.
Basically the IVA stays on credit files for 6 years from the start date ( or until it finishes if it is a 7 year plus job). The defaults should be dated on or around the start date and will drop off on their 6th anniversary.

I have just applied for a credit card not from one of my creditors nothing on. Credit file and refused actually came back with 'you may have not paid back in full a debt' was. Gutted 4. Years after the end so mortgage is out then, not even sure if I can rent frightened of the report they might get and I might need a guarantauer

Could have been some archival records they have ( might be a connected lender in the same group as one of your creditors). This doesn't apply to all lenders, but don't keep trying as a group of searches all together will raise alarm bells.

Mortgages are a different animal and Ryan has placed quite a few for those with an IVA in the history.

It didn't really want the credit card as have managed without for nearly 10 years just thought it would be useful and a test of how it works years down the line, I never changed my phone contract TV contract or car insurance, then I didn't get refused, so that was a bit of a blow. There is nothing on the credit reference agencies so they must have some inside info somewhere. I didn't even get a debit card until we almost finished just had a cash card and needed to ask the kids to pay anything I needed paying online
