I entered my IVA in Nov 2007, made my final payment Nov 2012 but didn't get my closure certificate until Sep 2013 (thanks to a change in laws to do with PPI).
My husband and I are now looking to get a mortgage but we are being told conflicting information and would like to know if anybody is aware of
How long it will stay on my credit report?
How long do I need declare my IVA?
If anybody who has been in an IVA actually has a mortgage(not just a mortgage promise)?
Can banks just refuse you as soon as you declare an IVA?

Hi and welcome to the forum. Your IVA stays on your credit file 6 years from the date of acceptance. If asked the question have you ever been in an IVA you will be required to answer honestly.

There are two mortgage experts on the forum who have helped a fair few people post IVA, both Ryan and Shaun can answer all your queries for you and both offer excellent advice.

Good advice from Lesley. Using a specialist broker would avoid unnecessary rejections which would further damage your credit file. This would be a shame as it should be pretty clear by now.

Get in touch with Ryan as suggested ...He has got me two mortgages in four years without a problem.

I can only agree with the above. Both Ryan and Shaun have been instrumental in placing many mortgages for those with an IVA in the past.

Hi Donnad0267,
I specialise in Adverse Credit Mortgages and hope the following helps.
The majority of High Street lenders will want you to have been discharged from an IVA for 6 years but some will accept you after 3 years.
I do however know a lender that will accept you (even with an IVA still running and is does not have to be cleared) and they will lend up to 70% of a property’s value providing you have maintained the payments on time, every time for the last 24 months.
The circumstances around the IVA are also important as the lender will want a clearly defined reason why you entered into the IVA – for example did you lose your job or become ill? There is no one answer but the reason has to be backed up with proof e.g. Doctors records or redundancy letter.

have a chat wuth Ryan or Shaun - both of whom are mortgage experts who proven success at helping forum members. Everyone's circumstances are very different and levels of deposit are different - I can personally vouch for Ryan having had two mortgages now via his company and I am aware of dozens of other forum members who have been equally pleased with him

Morning all, I have been in contact with Ryan and his team and things seem really promising. I will let you know as our journey goes on but there does seem to be light at the end of the tunnel.

Time really is a good thing when it comes to mortgages as the further behind you your adverse credit history, the better your chances of getting a mortgage.
