Evening everyone. Firstly, I'd like to thank you all, as the information I've found on here while lurking has given me advice and support, even though I wasn't a registered user! I feel like I know you all, and I just wish I'd found this place back in 2009!
My partner lost his job last August and we had been on payment breaks since then, until November when the variations team got in touch to say they were going to ask for creditors to accept payments to date. I'll be honest, I wasn't holding my breath, but last wednesday afternoon I got the phone call saying they had accepted. I cried. Then I smiled. Then I cried a bit more. Then I sat for a while saying 'gosh'. My partner still hasn't had any luck with the job search, and his contributions-based JSA runs out next week, but, you know, life's ok. Things generally work themselves out, maybe not in the way you would hope for, but things will be ok. We had a hiccup with the IVA 2 years ago, same thing, redundancy, and the dreadful feeling of knowing I had to call GT to beg for a payment break every month is something I know I will never have to feel again, and that just gives me such a sense of relief. Don't get me wrong, the IVA was the best decision we ever made, we've learnt so much about ourselves, how strong, deep down, we really are, and knowing that there are other good people out there, in the same boat, well, it brings a kind of comfort, I suppose.
So, to finish, I would like to thank GT, they done good in the end! And to you, dear forum members. I don't think you will ever know the impact you have on anonymous people, who just come and read, and don't register. And also to all of you who have been moved over to Creditfix, no words I can type will help your situations, but know that I feel for you all. The life of an IVA are peppered with worries and stress, even if they all go to plan, and to have this happen to you is just horrendous. I wish you all the very best.
With regards and respect

Great post Lou and I am sure GT will be delighted with the praise. They are an excellent firm and while they had a few problems for a while they seem to be back on track again. Well done all round.

Fantastic news louhad1974!! Can i just ask, how many payments did you pay into your iva? The reason i ask is that i may be in the same sort of situation in the coming months! and it is starting to get me down thinking about it constantly, I am suposed to introduce a lump sum into my arrangement which i know i will not be able to do, and wonder what my iva company will do! I have been in my iva for 7 years and i dont want it to fail.

Thanks everyone for all of your lovely replies and best wishes! The IVA has been such a big part of our lives, we're still coming to terms with it being over!
Spencer23, my mind is a fuzz at the moment, and I can't work out exactly how many months we paid in! We had a twelve-month payment break when partner first lost his job 2 years ago, and eventually a variation went through when he got part-time work which reduced original payment of £390 to £180 a month. In all, total debts were £36,710.15. Payments to date accepted were £20,096.42, with £8021.15 of that sum being PPI. When my mind is in less of a fog, I'll try to work out how many months in all we paid in for! At the moment, all the bits of paper just look like mumbo-jumbo! Hope this helps you a little bit, at least!
Again, many thanks to you all. You really are a great help and support to so many people.
