hi
i have been in an iva for 1year and i have been told by the company that you cannot upgrade your phone or have internet at home because of credit rating. For a pay as you go dongle is so expensive
it's about £135 pounds for 12gb and also my phone is so old it does not have even have a camrea. Nokia 1208. I was just wondering is it the same for other's in an iva? so i have started using the internet cafe which costs alot? approx £100 pound a month plus parking your car. Sometimes more due to printing stuff out. please help.
thank you

Speak to your internet provider and mobile phone company as many posters have upgraded while in an IVA. It is not for your IP firm to tell you how you can or cannot spend your own allowances but is between you and the providers.

We have changed phone providers, O2 to Orange, and gone from talk talk to BT for broadband. If you have a land line you may be able to get broadband through your provider. BT gave us the latest fibre optic because we have been with them for years, no questions asked.

Some providers will accept you, a few won't. It has nothing to do with your IVA company.

I've had no problem getting mobile phone upgrades from Vodafone during my IVA. Have also managed to join Sky, Plusnet and Primus for landline/broadband whilst the IVA has been in force.

Hi Charanjit,

We claim for home phone, broadband and 3 mobile phones, and each yeah when they are due for renewal, we aim to get better deals.

I would speak to your ip.

I upgraded with Vodafone more than once during my IVA without a problem. We never moved from Sky the whole time but I have heard of people moving so it is possible and I would heed Michael's advice.

To be honest, I consider internet a basic utility like water and electricity these days.

I've upgraded with Virgin media no problem during my IVA.

I have had internet continuously since going into IVA and upgraded it too. Also upgraded mobile a couple of times, granted with the same company I have been with for the past 10 years. Hope you get it sorted.

Ridiculous ..... how can you be expected to manage like that. Internet access at home is in my opinion a necessity these days and should be included as one of your allowable expenses as should mobile phones.
Ring around the different providers for the best deal on both
