We completed an IVA in December 2011. Our credit file is completely clear and Experian show us as having an excellent credit rating. We are about to apply for our first mortgage to purchase a shared ownership property, but when we were asked if we had ever had any CCJ's or defaulted on payments we admitted to the IVA 2006 -2011. They have now said they can not continue with our application as we will not be able to get a mortgage anywhere. Could someone please advise us if this is correct?

No this is not at all correct. We have two excellent whole of market brokers on forum who have placed quite a few mortgages to ex IVA'ers.
Go to the "Ask a Question" tab ( top left) then scroll down to experts details section -- you are looking for Ryan and / or Shaun

You should use a broker as they will know which lenders to approach and which to avoid.

Which bank is this that terminated the application....useful to know and avoid.
Why is this still happening? Hadicapped from loans for 'life' from banks.
'High Street banks=high street rates.'
So not nice to pay more than the other person.

RBS and Co-op are not keen on mortages for ex IVAs (well in my own case)

The co op bank rejecting ex iva applications ...now that is a surprise...the bank that was quick on the mark to offer Bank accounts to BRupt people. The first choice as a basic bank account for years.
RBS and Natwest are twinned so not surprised at their identical response.I will add HSBC.
That is 4 high street banks saying NO.I doubt any brokers can help with those banks.
Remember cheap prime mortgages can only only come from high street banks. No one else.

Not sure I agree that the high Street is the only place where the best prime rate mortgages are.
I've always used a broker, as they have always managed to beat the high Street deals.
Back when I was solvent, my particular Halifax fixed rate mortgage was only offered via intermediaries and was 0.3%apr cheaper than Halifax could offer me directly.
Next time I an in a position to remortgage, I will let a broker so all the leg work.

I continue to use a broker - it saves the leg work, and if you up front and honest in your applications, it saves time and disappoinment.
I personaly used Ryans company in the past - this is after enquiries to both Co-op and RBS proved unsuccessful

I can recommend ryan Radford at zebra money centre - we've got a mortgage agreed in principle through his hard work. Mainstream lender on a normal fixed rate .

Hi,
Will be happy to look at this for you tomorrow.
Please quote this post as a reference if you get in contact directly.
TzeKin,
we brokers, myself and Shaun have helped many posters on this forum obtain mortgages at high street rates, so can i ask you not be so negative about using a broker, we are here to help!
Unless you have personal experience of dealing with either of us that you would like to share?
