I have been given the opportunity to go on holiday to the usa as my mother in law has paid for this. I need to hire a car but do not have a credit card. Can you help

Look into the prepaid credit cards, there may be one that will pre authorise for car hire

You may be able to leave a cash deposit plus your passport as security with the rental company but check this well before flying

If your iva allows you to take our extra credit (usually a £500 limit), then a provider like Vanquis or Aqua may be able to offer a credit card.

The cashplus prepaid card is still the best and dependent MasterCard out there.
Still has mine...a little momento from that past.

Some hire companies will not accept pre paid credit cards as they are much the same as debit cards. some hire car companies will accept them however they will assign around 500 pounds from your card so that you cannot spend it until the car is returned. I have had experiences of a cashplus card being accepted by one hire car company and rejected by another - this was only in Europe though and not in the US so the rules there may be different

Which country are you visiting. I have some experience of hiring a car without a credit card. In Spain, some companies will allow you to book the car using a Visa Debit card and, provided you agree to pre-pay for fuel and take their additional insurance, they do not require any form of deposit. You pick up the car full of fuel, pay their fee for the petrol and return it as empty as you can. I believe the additional insurance is around the £6 a day mark.

Hi, I hired a car in Portugal and paid cash when we arrived. Booked it over the internet. Google car hire with no credit card.
