I am 2 years in to an IVA, as per my previous post I am thinking about asking a relative to help with f&f. Will the Iva still stay on my credit file for 6 years from when I started? Is there any hope of a remortgage and moving house before then? Would a guarantor help at all? We are so desperate to move and my father in law really wants to help is there any way of making this happen?

Hi yes the IVA stays on your credit files for 6 years from date of acceptance. I'm not sure in the current climate if you would be able to gain a mortgage before your credit files are clear I'm afraid. We do have mortgage experts on the forum Ryan and Shaun who may comment. All the best with your f&f offer.

Hi Sharon,
Yeah, even if you have completed IVA it will stay on your file for 6 years. Mine was paid with a lump sum in 2009 so I havent made any payments for 5 years, but the IVA still shows on my file, and it will stay there until next year when I too will look to get a mortgage. You can try the experts, but I did speak to Ryan myself last year to see if there was any hope as I was so long post-IVA, but he did say that its almost impossible to secure a mortgage whilst the IVA still shows on the file. Sorry I can't be the bearer of better news

As soon as it is cleared from your credit file contact Ryan ... He will then be able to see what they can do to support ... Make sure any defaults are removed as well !
