Hi

recently got married and my other half has an Iva.

i want to change my name on everything but we are worried this will affect my credit. We are working hard to get my credit rating up so can get mortgage in just my name.

also if the Iva is paid off early how soon can we get a joint mortgage without the Iva effects?

Hi. There is no problem with you changing your name on everything -- the dents appear in YOUR credit rating when (whatever name you use) you have any joint accounts. Keep yourselves financially separate.

The IVA will affect your other half for at least 6 years from the start, even if paid off early. And can leave a stain a little longer.

Yes. It will drop off of the credit reference agency files 6 years from the start.

Mortgage lenders have different criteria -- some will lend to ex IVA'ers almost right away, some want to wait another 6 years and some profess to never lend to us again!

When you are ready we have a couple of whole of market brokers on forum, both of whom have placed quite a few mortgages for ex-IVA'ers. They can be found under the "Ask a Question" button ( top left) and scrolling down to the experts details section .... you are looking for Ryan and / or Shaun.

There's a handy "clean up" guide here:

Agree with foggy ..six years from start it will start to clear ... Avoid joint accounts for now to avoid any financial associations if possible.
I can personally vouch for Ryan as. Mortgage broker ..he has helped numerous forum members at different stages of their iva journey

Do not get any joint financial associations, not even a joint bank account! You would then be financially linked!

When they do a credit search on you, they would see the link and then do a search on your partner.
