Work are giving me a gift payment of 3K this will be paid into my salary and will be subject to normal tax deductions ect and will appear on my payslip as a bonus. will this come under the 10% 50/50 rule?or classed as a windfall. Any help appricated thank you

I would imagine it would, being work related, be classed under the 10% 50/50 rule.

My bonus payments, albeit only around £100 mark were always treated as 50/50 ( I didn't have the 10%). Maybe if they were above £500 they would have been looked at differently.

Ours are always treated as 10/50/50 x

Thanks everyone, I was always led to understand if it was a bonus via work I could keep half, but because it's a large bonus not sure of the rules. By the time it's taxed etc it will be more like 2k . So would only keep 1k if I have to pay half.

Bonuses, commission or similar are not treated as windfalls so you should be able to keep at least half. Check your proposal and enjoy the cash.

Definitely not a windfall, so payable to your IP in whatever ratio of split is applicable to your proposal.

Sounds like a holiday may be on the cards - and well done for over-performing at work to be rewarded with such a nice bonus.
