Thanks for everyones help, sorry if I seemed confused, my work gave us free shares years ago, the comany will float soon, however, we still keep our shares but there giving us a gesture of goodwill payment through our pay. Thats why was not sure if classed as windfall or 50/50 rule.

No worries about confusion --- as much as we would all like these things to be black and white, they seldom are !
