Are Self Certification mortgages still available?
I am a self-employed window cleaner and my wife and I are foster carers.

Hi
No, I think they have been banned following the credit crunch
Creditors have to show that affordability has been carefully looked at going forward

Thank goodness they are not. They have caused enough problems for some folks over the past few years - let alone the credit crunch itself!

Hi,
They definetly are not, thank god, but this does not mean people with various diferent forms of income cannot get a mortgage, so do contact a whole of market mortgage broker, who will be able to help

Thank you for your replies. I think a simple 'no' would have been enough though. The concept of these mortgages aren't bad, just those who lie about their affordability.
Maybe banning Credit cards, bank loans, car finance etc etc would help too.
Maybe Shaun thinks differently, I have just found the following listed on his website.
Mortgage Options
Remortgage
Flexible Mortgage
Self-Certification
Buy-to-Let
Right-to-Buy
Commercial Mortgage
Secured Loans

I would have thought that all Independent Financial Advisers have arranged self-certificated mortgages in the past. You make a good point Optimism, in that credit is not bad, and everyone can exercise choice.
