Today I have been removed from the dreaded Insolvency Register and my six and a half years of struggle are finally over.
I know this isn't the case for everyone out there in IVA land but I just wanted to put a positive post out there for Grant Thornton and their staff. I was originally with Accuma and was transferred to GT. Now anyone with Accuma will know that they were not the best with regards to communication etc but I really can't say that about GT. I made contact with a lovely lady called Victoria who sorted out my reviews every year, listened to my woes and would bend over backwards to be accommodating to my needs. I had a little hiccup at closure in that I made my last payment in April 2013 (six year IVA in lieu of equity)and found out that our case wasn't passed to closures until June. However, since that date, GT have stuck to every promise they made. I always had replies to my emails (never bothered phoning)and when they said I would complete before the end of the year, I did.
I appreciate for those who are banging their heads of the wall with GT this may sound very "oh well jolly hockey sticks for you!" and I know I have been extremely lucky but stick with it. My tip - get a name in the Closures Dept and only email that person. At the end of the day the staff at GT are only doing a job, which I can imagine to be quite stressful at times! From experience I have discovered that ranting doesn't get you very far in life... although I'm sure there are lots of you out there that would disagree with me!
At the end of the day, I got MYSELF into an almighty mess financially. It has been VERY hard and at times felt like it would never end but I have to say it was worth it. My son is hopefully starting university in September and at least now I can help him out without the worry of having to 'rob Peter to pay Paul' to do it.
Today, seeing the Insolvency Register without my name on it, was like a great weight had been lifted. If anyone wants to message me for any advice, feel free to do so. I'm a great believer in spreading knowledge and after all knowledge is power they say!
Good luck to everyone who is starting this journey, in the middle of, or even nearing the end. IT IS worth it!
