Opening a Barclay Cash account before an IVA or BR - but don't want to tell about future BR

When opening a Barclays cash card account which is BR friendly, and opening it before bankruptcy,

the banker at the branch will probably ask why do you want to open a cash card account? and they will offer the better current account instead (as they offer the better products/accounts)

but want the Basic cash account, so that they will be open and used after the BR.

so what reason could we give them, for wanting to open the cash card account? (without actually admitting to the banker that the person will be declaring BR in the future).

Just say you have another account elsewhere with a cheque book etc - and don't need those facilities for the account you planning to open. You NOT BR or in an IVA so you can truthfully answer no - to any questions asked

Just tell them the truth and problem solved. They have a duty to offer you the best package available and if you tell them you are going bankrupt it stops any other questions.

When applying for the account, is it an instant decision?

or can be referred ?

+ do they give you the sort code and account number straight away ?

I've got this account- I opened it 10 months prior to IVA. They didn't ask any questions and I got my sort code and account number straight away (my credit rating was a mess as well as I was only making token payments at the time)

In regards to being accepted for the barclay cash account or rejected...

..as as this decision then does it matter if you have debt with Barclays, loan and an overdraft in minus (-)?

ie does it look that the person can't manage their current finances 'within' barclays, so they might reject them ?

(any past experienced members who have opened 'cash' barclay accounts with barclays share your experiences please).

If you already have a liability with Barclays and then you open up a basic account with them and subsequently go bankrupt, the liklehood is that the account will be frozen.

I was refused a cash account with Barclays when I was BR and was told it was most likely due to the fact that Barclaycard were a creditor. However when the BR was off my credit file I opened a full account, although I closed it out of principle as I don't like Barclays.
