Have just finished my iva, not got certificate yet,but recently i keep getting application letters for this credit card. Don't know whether to apply so i can start getting a better credit rating. What's your opinion.

I applied and was accepted and it I pay it off every month in full so the interest rate is irrelevant to me.

I believe it has improved mine from 1/5 to 2/5 on Noddle, but know when the IVA drops off the records in Feb 14 it should shoot up too.

I applied as soon as my completion certificate was through and my IVA is still on my credit file. There is the Aqua card too. I had an initial £500 limit and they're increasing this at the end of this month to £1000! crazy in such a short space of time but no worries here as lesson learned from IVA. x

Hi

Is it essential to wait until the completion certificate is received or can we apply earlier. Our f & f offer of payments to date got accepted 3 weeks ago. Our 6 years are up at the end of February 2014. We have been getting priority application forms from Vanquis.

I am in a similar situation. Finished IVA but waiting for CC. I have received a letter from Vanquis this morning saying that I'd been "pre-selected" for a credit card. I'd like to apply as even though I don't need a credit card, it's sometimes necessary for things like hiring a car. However, I'll wait until the CC arrives as I don't want to do anything that may jeopardise my IVA. I haven't asked my IVA company if it's OK or not but will if necessary.

Having just applied for the card, I note that on the application, Vanquis state that if successful, they'll pass your details on to third party companies (who'll obviously bombard you with spam) unless you contact Vanquis to tell them otherwise.

I'm keen to prevent this as I get enough phone calls & junk mail as it is. Am I right in thinking that if/when they phone me to verify my details, is when I should explicitly explain that I'm most unhappy for my details to be passed on to third parties?

Can anyone who has successfully obtained the Vanquis card offer their advice?

Well I got a Vanquis card whilst still in my IVA. (My IVA allows for a £500 credit limit).

On that basis, if you have completed your payments, and are merely awaiting your CC, then go for it. Good way to rebuild your credit rating.

All the best.

Not all IVA's allow for borrowing, and some of those with a £500 limit also require the consent of the Supervisor --- so do not go applying until you are sure of the provisions applicable in your own particular case.

As petty as it might seem, even if you have made all of your payments, some firms will still hold you to the letter of the arrangement until you get that certificate and the last thing you want is a breach after making your 60 payments !!
