Hi Legs - if the life ins policy is in both of your names can you call the insurance company for a copy of your policy?

Legs, I believe if you life insurance policy is in arrears of three months or more, it is in danger of being lapsed unless you have an arrangement with the insurers. If thats not the case, whether your partner has wholly paid for it or not, if its a joint policy, the insurers will give you a copy. Probably for a small fee though.

You don't need a life insurance policy - I don't have one as my health problems mean it would cost me a fortune!!
You could take one out in your own name if finances allow.

Hmmm, same thing crossed my mind. I was also in lousy health, couldn't get life insurance either. Perhaps your IP wants it to confirm figures from within your I&E. Thats the only reason I can think of as, whether you have life insurance or not, it has nothing to do with them.

Your insurance company ought to be able to provide you with a copy. Is the policy covering the repayment of the mortgage in the event of your death. Given that your partner is meeting the premium, it would be unfair to cancel the policy if it is not costing you anything.

yes mel. it is to cover mortgage repayments in the event that any of us die. not sure why i am being asked to produce it. what will it be for and would i have to get my own life insurance if she still refuses.
