Welcome to the forum....HSBC are unfortunately known for closing accounts for those people in IVA's although they should give you at least 14 days notice. The money you have in your account should be made available for you....I think you will need to go and plead your case to the manager tomorrow in branch to see what they can do.
In the mean time it is vital that you arrange a new account albeit a basic account that lets direct debits etc and then arrange for your wages to be paid into this account with immediate effect...you will also need to change the direct debit for your bills to come from this account ....

fingers crossed something can be sorted tomorrow. Have you a local foodbank near you that could help with the essentials and at least provide you with some food for acouple of days whilst you get it sorted ? any family or friends that can help you out ?

Hi and welcome.

Sorry to hear of your problems.

Were they one of your creditors? If so then you should have been told to change bank accounts. If not then they usually give you 28 days notice before they close the account.

You do need to try and sort out a new account. The Co-op come highly recommended.

When you say you have money in there do you mean you are in credit or have an overdraft which you aren't up to the limit of?

Emma - do you owe them anything in a loan or on a credit card ? If not then they have absolutely no right to withold your money. I was with first direct (part of HSBC) and they only give you 14 days notice to close the account...go in tomorrow and fight your corner x

If you are going through the IVA process there is no reason for them to have closed your account.

Are they a creditor at all? Loan or credit card perhaps?

I do owe them money in a loan, will they just take all the money to offset or will they leave me some to live on?

I agree luluj - Emma, are HSBC a creditor?

They can take the money to offset until the IVA is approved.

Have you opened a new account elsewhere? You do need to asap.

Then once it is approved??

Once it is approved then HSBC can't do anything but until then they can. They used to take out my loan payments every month and then put them back (as there was no money available) and then charge me for it.

If you have no overdraft then you should be ok - they have to give you notice that they are closing the account.

Please nip to a non creditor bank tomorrow to open up a new account so that your salary and DDs can be sorted from that.
