Well, I answered the door to 2 bailiffs this morning who were demanding £600+ for an unpaid parking fine with threats to impound my car if I didn't make immediate payment. I was so shocked & scared that I very nearly paid it but this would have wiped out my account for the rest of the month. I managed to get them to leave by promising to contact them with a payment by the end of the day. I have since stashed my car somewhere hopefully safe & have instructed an online company to help me challenge the extortionate fees & just pay the original ticket. It relates to a car that I no longer own which was registered at my old address which must be why I haven't received any other correspondence. Has anyone else had experience of this?? They were so intimidating!!

Were they bailiffs or debt collectors?

They & paperwork they gave me says bailiffs. I've lodged appeal process with the court now so hopefully will be able to sort it out.

If the debt was for a car you no longer own then surely they cannot take your new car..

Thanks Niobe, that's a useful link, I have spent the entire day researching my rights etc. I'm fairly sure the court will de-instruct the bailiffs now whilst they process my appeal.
Nick, the car that the parking ticket was for was part exchanged earlier this year, probs for scrap. The process of checking databases for any vehicles that you currently own is contentious in itself.

If you are in an IVA let your IP know. If this relates to a pre IVA debt and the ticket was not written by a traffic warden or other police employee the debt could be captured in your IVA.

Thanks guys. Got a phonecall from the ever hopeful bailiff this morning, still hoping to earn his huge comission, I stupidly gave him my phone no yesterday as part of my mission to get rid of him. I told him to do one as he should have been de-instructed. Have heard nothing since.
