Hi all

A few months ago in another thread we mentioned our new Online Debt Resource Tool

http://mymoney.nedcab.org.uk/moneyadvice/

Mymoneynedcab has been shortlisted as a finalist in the best new initiative category at the Institute of Money Advisers (IMA) 2012 Awards evening held tonight in Harrogate.

http://www.i-m-a.org.uk/pdfs/performanc ... s-2012.pdf

Our new system was developed in house by the combined bureau staff and is now being successfully used in the front line of debt advice with further developments ongoing.

We would like to take this opportunity to genuinely thank those on this forum (Melanie Giles & Size 5) who gave us important feedback which was acted upon.

We are very pleased with the way our new system is developing especially in relation to working with other agencies and vulnerable clients and that it has now received official recognition.

As many members will be aware as one of the few charity agencies (maybe even lone charity) that post on here we occasionally find ourselves engaged in what could be described by some as heated debate with other forum members.

We acknowledge that we are not regular posters on this site but genuinely believe that our contributions are worthwhile as they can sometimes bring a little balance to the procceedings and we have always been made welcome.

It has been a difficult couple of years for NEDCAB & our colleagues in other CABs up and down the country and the uncertainty continues, however we have never given up the fight and will battle on come what may.

The CABs play a vital role in debt advice, especially on a face to face role (some people may say.. you would say that which is understandable and they are right because that is excactly what we are saying because it is true)

All that said we would like to think that our fellow members on this forum and viewers looking in will wish us well tonight and for the future.

Yours Sincerely

The NED-CAB Team

I certainly do wish you well, for tonight and for the future. Our debates are generally very interesting and do provoke thought and long may they continue.

I have certainly had cause to have the odd "heated debate" with NEDCAB over the last few years, and I cannot say that I have always agreed with their take on things, but I have always recognised and acknowledged that the CAB do have a vital role to play in the field of debt advice to vulnerable individuals, indeed they are often asked to pick up the pieces where other charities, notably CCCS, will not take a case on. They, in turn, have shown the same consideration back and come across as truly passionate about their work, and you can't knock someone for that, even if you do, occasionally, disagree with them.

I am sure that there will be strong competition for the award, but I will be rooting for them, and hope they will post again tomorrow with some good news on the subject.

Regards.

Good luck from me too. I consider the CABs to be independent unlike other so called 'charities' and while we sometimes have differing views I have utmost respect for the work you do.

Best of luck to all of you up there - having visited you personally, and had regular contact since then both on and off the forum, I know the spirit in which you operate and sincerely hope this will see you win the battle this evening.

Well done for all the stirling work you do for troubled people in my beloved home county, and best of luck! Let us know the outcome tomorrow please.

Many congrats!

what is the initiaive you put in place?

we launched a great one 2 years ago with our CAB called 'advise on prescription' to help minimise the suicide risk and mental health affects of debt on clients following an assessment with their GP.

I love inivative projects!!

Congratulations from me too. Well deserved but I am starting to feel a bit left out with everyone else getting awards!
