Hi, i just news to clear a query that i have.
I have been told by a mortgage broker that although a iva clears from the credit file after 6 years, a lender will not give you a mortgage until after 10 years after the start of the iva. Is this true? Thanks

Use Ryan - (the link is on expert section) use a whole broker used to dealing with post IVA - they will know the lenders to approach - you may need a higher deposit to start with.

A lot of posters on here have obtained a mortgage post IVA

We have several posters who.will tell you that they have a mortgage and it wasn't long after they finished that they managed to get one so it is possible.

I would find another broker. There are people getting secured loans to close down IVAs and the broker is then confident he can switch everything down the High Street two years after this. That should be the maximum.

I got a high street mortgage 1 year post IVA. I had to spend a long time cleaning my report and starting off with a Vanquis card but now I've got a 0% card and a competitive interest rate mortgage. I had a big deposit though don't know if this helps

I completed my iva early with a FF in March 2010. It was due to finish in October 2010. November 2011 most of my credit files were sorted apart from a few mistakes which are now sorted.

Going though the process of a mortage at the moment. Cross fingers all seems ok but I won't start to celebrate until I have the keys!

This was done direct with a high street bank (which was NOT part of my iva) Will let you all know how I get on.

Good luck with your mortgage application.....if the high street lender doesn't come up trumps consider contacting Ryan on the experts page - he is a whole of the market mortgage broker and has helped several forum members in gaining mortgages in different stages of their IVA journey.....good luck !
