Hi, I completed a joint IVA with my wife in November 2011. Unfortunately we have since separated & as such I need to open a bank account in my name only. Currently we still have a joint basic account with The Halifax. However, when I went & saw The Halifax today I was refused the option of opening an account in my name due to my credit rating. My question is, when will I be able to apply for an account in my own name as I don't want to continue to attempt to open an account & ruin my credit score even more? As you can imagine, it's slightly complicated financially trying to live separate lives but with a joint account :)

Try the Co-op if they weren't a creditor, you should have no problems opening an account with them. If you go for the basic cashminder you'll have to do it on the phone or in branch.

I feel a separate as I suggested last night would be a good option. why not try the Coop or Natwest, there are several basic accounts out there that are running for free at this time. Worth a look. x

I think Barclays are quite good as well.
