my husband use to clean our windows, but since he has had sciatica he is no longer safe climbing a ladder - we have had a quote to have our windows cleaned and wondered if that would be included in our I&E review this year

Hi,
Not something I have ever heard of and we get our windows cleaned as well as hubby suffers from ill health.
No harm in trying for it. They can only say no!!

I don't see why not, assuming that this is not an excessive amount, but would this not already be covered under your house maintenance allowance?

I could see creditors being more likely to give a separate allowance or as an explanation of the level of household maintenence costs if the person putting it forward was elderly or disable and unable to reasonably wash the windows themselves. They might accept it anyway but if you had a reason to contribute it always helps. Every little helps as some small market stall (supermarket) near me is known to say

Ours are done once a month for six pounds. It comes out of our general housekeeping. It wasn't something I even thought about.
Paul - ours uses a brush on a long pole so doesn't need ladders!!

We used to get ours done but the fly gits tried to bill us twice on a few occasions,and didnt realise I was in the house one day when they half cleaned some of the windows and popped the "we have cleaned your windows" bill through the door!!
They got told to "do one"!!!!

Don't blame you. Ours is pretty good. If he wasn't then there's plenty more that could take over from him.

We used to live in one of those 3 storey town houses that are in favour on new builds. If we'd been living there when we entered the IVA then I'd have put window cleaning down as there's no way that you'd get me up a ladder that high!

When I was a teenager I did my own window cleaning round on our estate. Customers used to put the money on the upstairs window ledge to make sure I went up there. And, seeing as I was there I thought I might as well clean the windows!

Just to clarify - people may claim a small fortune wigwam, but they will probably be capped at the guidelines. We get £24 per month which doesn't even cover the insurance so all the pets food has to come out of our household budget.
Didn't want to mislead anyone coming to the site thinking they can have 20 horses etc and claim the allowances for them all!

Foggy your reply made me laugh, what a good way of ensuring that you get your windows cleaned, ha ha. My windows get done once a month and costs £3.50 for a small semi, he evens goes over the 6 ft gate to get to the back of the house when i have forgotten to unbolt it! I pay this out of my household expenditure didn't think to put it down in all honesty.
