Hi all,

I have been with the same insurance comapny for years, this year my premium has nearly doubled for no reason at all so I am taking my business elsewhere.

My query is regarding paying by monthly instalemts, has anyone managed to get approved whilst being in an iva ???

thx in advance

Yes absolutely as some credit search and some don't. I have just renewed both home and car and home provider didn't search other than a basic fraud/identity check and the car insurance - LV did credit check and told me they could not offer me monthly payments. If you can secure the funds from friend/relative and pay then pay them back monthly that is another way of doing it - just make sure your I.P is aware. Good luck with search!.

Same here mine went from £279 to £508. I've cancelled mine and got one from elsewhere but had to borrow money from my dad. So paying him back monthly.

I've changed within an IVA and continued with monthly payments, although we do read on here more companies refusing after running a credit check.

I'll see what this year brings. x

I changed my car insurance company this year from direct line to tesco, I'm paying monthly so can only assume that they didn't credit check!

I've never had a problem swapping any insurance but I do kknow that some posters have.

It pays to shop around - although there are checks done (usually just on your address) these don't show up to anyone else looking at your record.

Most insurance companies do do a check, but this is normally to establish home address and being on the electoral role etc ..... we have always had no issues in paying monthly !

I found this to be an issue last month when shopping around for car insurance. On the comparison sites Kwik Fit and Hastings Direct both knocked me back for monthly payments. I was expecting Santander to do the same - the quote was good, but it seemed they used another company to provide the credit..I applied and it went through no problem, but it does seem to be a bit hit and miss.

I think most Insurance Companies hike the price up if you are renewing, but if you say you are going to go elsewhere, they manage to drop the price somehow!!!

Hi we have just had the same problem, my insurance actually wanted to charge £75 just to renew the policy!!

I tried Hastings/Kwik fit and was refused on credit check........went with Lloyds TSB in the end, a little more expensive than Hastings but still £200 cheaper than my renewal!!

It really is a case of shopping around as much as you can but thats been the case for years.

Just had my renewal through from Direct Line, 12 quid up on last year, but only £178 fully comp including £18 NCD protection, so not bad and no worries about paying monthly.

i've managed to get monthly payments and for 270 pounds less than my renewal quote. After trying many comparison sites and failing, i tried going direct to churchill which was a great success. If you use their website and your quote displays a monthly payment option then that is guaranteed to be available for you. I confirmed this with their telesales team.
