				I have a job interview at a firm of solicitors next week, on my email i have received from them it states that if i am successful in the role i will be subject to a credit and CRB check - not sure if this is just a bog standard email but its only for an admin job in the evening! Just wondering if there is any point going for the interview now

				Every point, mellymoo. Just be honest.  I used to be on interview panels where we did CRB and credit checks. As long as the results didn't actually imapct on the actual job and the applicant was honest, they were often ignored. Where a problen does arise is where the applicant lies about their history and is found out --- definite no-no and rejection ( or dismissal).
They are obviously impressed enough to want to talk to you. As I said, be honest and be yourself.

				I've worked in solicitors for 11 years now and i've never had a credit check done before! At what point shall i be honest, would i slip it in during interview or wait to see if i get a call offering me the job so i can explain prior to the credit check?

				I would simply wait and see if it is brought up. If they don't bring it up, they are not bothered about it, if they do they WILL be testing your honesty in all probability.
For instance, in my previous role, had I been faced with an applicant with a minor misdemeanour, I would not come right out with "Tell me why you were D&D last November?".  I would just ask  "Have you had any brushes with the law lately" and see what the reaction was.
For some reason many more employers seem to be carrying out credit checks these days, even for non financially related roles. Of course, one thing also to bear in mind is that many of what they call "credit checks" are actually only identity checks, which don't reveal your financial history.

				Right i see as i have been asked to take 3 forms of identification in with me for them to photocopy, so fingers crossed it is just an identity check and not a financial one. Thanks very much for your help feeling a bit better now but still a bit worried!

				this is what it stated at the bottom of the email in bold...

				The CRB won't disclose any financial data but wonder if an anonymous call to their HR department would find out for you if found to be in an arrangement with creditors would prevent you gaining the position as I'm assuming they've offered more than one person to interview and maybe put your mind at rest.

				It may be worth mentioning the IVA at the interview and if they use this against you then they are not a firm you would want to work for anyway. At least it is then disclosed and as Foggy mentioned earlier non disclosure is a much greater concern to employers than an IVA.

				Hmmm now i've just looked at my credit report online and its only showing my bank account....which is showing i am a good customer.  I got married a year ago so i am presuming the IP hasnt intertwined my maiden name....what do i do now as i presume they are only going to want to check against my married name?

				The CRB check may ask for names used over the previous 6 years??
Do you have a contact email address that you could use to ask them about the IVA and whether its an issue? I would not try to hide it,because getting sacked 3 months down the line for dishonesty would be bad!!

				Hi Mellymoo, go for the interview and be honest as Michael's people has said if this isn't a problem then they are probably a firm you want to work for if not then they aren't worth your worry. Good luck whatever you decide to do. xx

				I personally would let them do the CRB and credit checks, then if they do not ask about previous credit history / problems specificaly then there is no need to declare it.
If they later come back and say you've been unsuccessful and the only reason is the IVA then it is their loss.
It's the same with a interview, always show your best side and try to eliminate the bad, and do not volunteer negative stuff.  Or at least try to turn the negative into a positive.  Which of cause you could do if directly asked the question.
