This time last year I used a credit card to buy 'go live' points for my sons xbox. A years access was £40. Yesterday my son got an email from Microsoft saying his 12mths were up, and they were renewing his subscription automatically with the card details provided 12mths ago.
If Microsoft try and process this payment will it just be knocked back, then microsoft disconnect my son..or will the payment be made and it look like I've used a credit card? [:0]

The account won't exist anymore so I assume that it will just be declined. Not sure what will happen with the subscription though, it might disconnect or just ask you for other details.
Wouldn't worry about it looking as though you have used a credit card as you won't have.

I guess if the credit card account is still open then they can probably take the money. Have you tried contacting them?. My advice would be to contact your IP and take it from there.

It's highly unlikely that the card account will still be open. None of mine are and all have been sold on to DCA's.

The card account will almost certainly be closed. The same situation occurs if a card has reached it's expiry date during the year leading up to the renewal date. The replacement card will have a slightly different number, and as a result the supplier will normally request updated information. You can then pay this by debit card assuming you have the funds available. Paying this way will also prevent automatic renewal and you should ensure that you cancel any automatic renewal clause in the agreement. But to be honest don't worry, suppliers are not going to cancel anything if they can sell something!

thanks for the replies..Any future renewals have already been cancelled - I just didn't want the credit card people thinking I'd tried to use my card!
