You can apply for a mortgage however as the IVA will remain on your credit file for a further period (6 years from the start date of it), you will find that it may be quite difficult to have one approved unless you have a hefty deposit and you use a whole of the market mortgage broker.
I recently got a mortgage but this was with a 50% mortgage and using a mortgage broker .....happy to share his details with you off forum so if you want his details say so and admin will email me your email address.

Hi - my IVA finished last July and I have recently been approved for a mortgage, with just a 29% deposit. I used a mortgage broker and the mortgage is with Northern Rock, standard high street mortgage, no problems with the IVA.

That is excellent news Cindy. I am sure those of us planning on housebuying in the future will be happier having seen this.

hi all, sorry to hijack, but i am wondering if anyone can tell me ..if the iva is paid off early does the iva still stay on your credit file for 6 years?

Yes, I am afraid it does. The key date is the date of acceptance of the IVA -- the 6 years counts from then.

Agree - it's there for the full term. Once finished as well you need to check whether any defaults were registered after the date of acceptance and if so, write to the creditors to get them removed.

Thank you. Guess i will have to be prepared for a high interest and high deposit mortgage. Hope it will go down as the years pass or i suppose i could transfer to another lender.
