Hi,

Well at the weekend me and my partner split up! We are going to try and keep the house going and still pay the IVA as it is a joint one. I am going to inform my IP of the changes and changes to tax credits etc. I was just wondering in the future if I had to sell the house would I be able to rent somewhere with having an IVA. Do private landlords do credit checks etc? Also any overtime I have been doing I have been sending a cheque payment, does anybody know if you can pay by another method?

Thanks.

Hi Tracey sorry to hear about your news. I am not sure about renting privately, I think not all private landlords credit check but if you go through an agency they usually do. As for paying over your overtime, just ask your IP for your bank account number and set up a payment online through your bank, this is the way I pay over my extra, as a faster payment

Hi Tracey, sorry to hear of the split with your partner and glad you're working a way forward with your IVA. Private landlords don't always carry out credit checks, I know with agents they do and often require a big deposit.

I think a bank transfer can be made in respect of your uplift payments if you just ask your IP I'm sure they'll give you the relevant details you need.

Hope you're ok? x

Don't worry to much about private rent. Just be honest with the agent. Some ask for another family member to act as guarantor others just ask for a letter from your ip to say the rent can be paid out of your outgoings. We have just rented with no problem at all.

As well as being an IP, I also own a few properties as well as a private landlord, and I would have no problem in letting to someone who had had earlier financial difficulties, so long as I could see they were doing something positive to address them such as an IVA or a DMP.
