My Husband and I are currently in a joint IVA. Can anyone tell me where I stand if I get pregnant? I wouldn't give up work but would need to either reduce my hours or pay for full time childcare! I'm 37 and probably don't have many years left to have a family.

Hi - your I&E would be reviewed for your change of circumstance to see whether you were able to continue making payment during your maternity leave and your I&E would be reviewed again on your return to work. Payment breaks and reduced payments to allow for baby may mean increasing the duration of your ivas. Would BR be an option? I only ask because you could begin your family without the weight of debt on your shoulders. But really you need to speak to your IP to discuss the implications of a pregnancy on your iva. Family comes first though and you would regret it forever if you didn't try for a family because of some silly debt xx

Hi Little roly. BOL is right that you don't need to put your life on hold just because you are in an IVA.

How long have you been in your IVA for?

HI Kallis3, We have only had the IVA 7 months so still have a long way to go hence not wanting to wait until it's clear. BR wasn't an option as we wanted to keep our house. I was just curious regarding having a baby as I've been thinking about it a lot since my father in law died.

Don't put it on hold, there will be a way round sorting out your IVA. Your family comes first.

Defo don't put it on hold. Your IP will know how to make this workable. xx

Hi
I am sure that your payments can be reduced/put on hold whilst you have your baby.
Once you are back at work or have sorted any tax credits out you can resume your full payments.Any missed payments will usually be tagged onto the end of your IVA

i would agree with everyone else. Don't put your life on hold, and if you want a baby. Get on and have a baby. Lifes too short. i can guarantee the best experience of your life. When you bring that little person into the world. Ooooh look at me getting broody. x

Mine is 23 now and whilst I wouldn't be without her, would not want to go through it again!

Don't wait. Go for it. As BOL and others have said. It took us three years to fall for the little one I am carrying now, I have no idea how it will affect the IVA as my IP says I have to wait til I have it to be able to work things out (which I kinda get!), we have every intention of continuing to pay the IVA as I am only going to take 6 weeks maternity (I work from home for the moment - redundancy is looming though).... !! Please go with your heart - nothing comes close to holding your child. I am 36 now, and if I did not fall this year I am not sure how much longer we would keep trying.

As all have said before me ... go for it! The Ip can work around it ( I am sure he has before!).

As I have mentioned before ... if you wait until the "time is right" or "we have enough money", it will never happen!

Can't help but smile everytime I see the title to this thread, "Where do I stand if I get pregnant?" .... in the corner of Maternity !

Lucky it wasn't "How do I stand if I get pregnant?" ... flat footed and duck like .... sorry I'll leave quietly Officer :0)

Hi Mumsmushroom

I fell pregnant whilst in our IVA and DFD were brilliant. Fortunately I got 6 months full mat pay but we adjusted my I&E to include childcare, follow on milk, nappies etc (all the expense that comes with new borns!) and was also able to raise our clothing allowance a little to be able to buy sleepsuits etc. My childcare costs were questioned at the beginning, but as I was able to provide invoices of the costs they were accepted.

I don't know if you have thought of childcare afterwards but most childminders are half the cost of nurseries.

As others have said don't put your life on hold, children are just so precious, and really at the end of the day, they don't need half the things that the magazines try and get you to buy just loads and loads of nappies!
